Day 5 in Mexico...

Since this is my first post, I'll add pictures of some of the key places we've been.
Mexico is hotter than I expected, I don't think I've stopped sweating since we left RDU. We're in Merida right now, and Central College is amazing. We can catch a bus to go downtown and to the museums and the market to shop. We stayed at the hacienda one night before we arrived in Merida and one night in a hotel. I've learned more than I ever thought I would and it hasn't even been a week yet.

With our guide Miguel, along with Dr.Vick, we have more knowledge than any other group in Mexico. They both have shared so much of their knowledge to us and have so far made the trip unforgettable.

Pictures say a 1,000 words so here are some so far...

the first night in mexico at the hotel...

Ek' Balam...

The Hacienda...

College Central..

Before our first night out in Merida...

Chichen Itza (one of the 7 modern wonders of the world)...

One of the many Cenotes...

Shopping for Hammocks...

Tonight we're going into town to watch a show downtown. Tomorrow we will be traveling to the beach and to observe Flamingos.

Hasta Luego!

Merida

Hello All,
We arrived in Merida last night and did a walking tour of Centro this morning. We spent the first two days of our adventure in Valladolid and at the Hacienda Yun Ku. We have visited the Maya sites of Ek Balam and Uxmal. We enjoyed the sound and light show at Uxmal last night before driving into Merida. Our group is great. Everyone is involved and enjoying learning new things.

Hello and Welcome

I am getting very excited about returning to the beautiful Yucatan. Our travel and study there will be fascinating. There is so much to learn about - the biological diversity, the ancient Maya, the contemporary Maya, Maya mathematics, the history of Mexico, and much more. Also, so much to see - the flamingos at Celestun, the spider monkeys at Punta Laguna, the incredible reef, the cenotes, the gorgeous beaches, the pyramids and temples, the villages, Merida, and much more.
You will all find much to love in Yucatan. I look forward to meeting everyone.
I posted a picture of Miguel Mendez and me. Miguel is our guide and he is the best. A knowlegeable guide and a great friend.
